Sustainability

Helping to protect the Lake District National Park

Help us look after the landscape you love. Use public transport, sit back, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Remember, every sustainable choice contributes to preserving the natural beauty of the Lake District and Cumbria.

Sustainability

We are committed to sustainable practices that minimize our impact on the environment. From reducing waste to conserving resources, sustainability is at the core of our mission.

Car-Free Days Out

Join us in exploring the beauty of our region without relying on cars. We’ve partnered with Visit Lake District Car Free Days Out which encourages visitors to leave their cars behind and enjoy attractions by foot, bike, boat or public transport. By promoting car-free days out, we contribute to a greener future and wider access to leisure, culture, and nature.

Green Energy Tariff

Our commitment extends to energy choices. We offer a green energy tariff that supports renewable energy sources. By opting for this tariff, you contribute to a cleaner planet while enjoying reliable energy services.

Pillows and Plastic

We are reducing our impact on the environment by not supplying extra bed linen or towels during your stay. Millions of gallons of water are used to wash towels and bedding that have only been used once, every day. We do, however, provide laundry facilities where bed linen and towels can be washed and dried should you need to do so (charges apply). Thank you for helping us to conserve the earth's vital resources by reducing unnecessary laundry.

In order to reduce plastic in our waste stream, we only use refillable bottles for complimentary shampoo/shower gel in our accommodation.

Visitor Donation Scheme for Local Conservation Projects

We believe in giving back to our community and protecting the natural beauty around us. Our visitor donation scheme supports local conservation projects, including repairing footpaths and safeguarding wildlife habitats. When you book, please consider donating to the Lake District Foundation to help preserve our environment.

EV Charging

As part of our eco-friendly initiatives, we provide electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, you can charge your EV conveniently at our locations.

Helping Local Communities and Charities

We actively engage with local communities and support charitable organisations. From volunteering efforts to fundraising events, we strive to make a positive impact where we operate.

Carbon Footprint

We regularly assess our carbon footprint and implement strategies to reduce it. Transparency and accountability drive our efforts.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of sustainability. Our future plans include expanding renewable energy adoption, enhancing community partnerships, and advocating for responsible practices.

Join us on this journey toward a greener, more resilient world!

Our contribution

The woodlands surrounding Hill of Oaks provide a natural environment for all sorts of animals, birds and plant life. We have also placed various bird stations and owl boxes throughout the site. As a result of our dedication to caring for the environment, and continued effort towards sustainable tourism practices, we have received several David Bellamy Conservation Awards. Additionally, we are a ‘Honey Bee Friendly Park’ and have won an award for supporting our local wildlife population by nurturing the hedgerows in the park.

We're proud supporters of the Lake District Foundation. All donations made upon booking directly with us will go towards projects which help nurture the landscapes and wildlife that make this part of the UK so special.

The Countryside Code is a fantastic guide to help us respect, protect and enjoy this beautiful landscape. You can view the full code here.
