Wildlife
The Park is conservation orientated with managed woodlands providing a natural environment for a rich biodiversity of animals, birds, flora and fauna. We have various bird stations and Owl Boxes throughout the site.
As a result of our dedication to the environment, and continued effort towards sustainable tourism practices, we continue to be awarded 5 star status by the English Tourism Council and the highest conservation accolade – Gold – by the David Bellamy Conservation Awards.
Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, it is 10.5 miles (16.9 km) long stretching from Newby Bridge to Ambleside.
The Lake contains 18 islands. By far the largest is the privately owned Belle Isle lying opposite Bowness and around a kilometre in length. There is a rich biodiversity of wildlife in the National Park and we ask you to enjoy your stay but respect the Countryside Code.
